Tirana

Made capital of Albania in 1920, it was until the 1990s the administrative centre of the most closed country in Europe. In the 2000s the building façades were deliberately painted in vivid colours, and today an Ottoman-era mosque and the concrete pyramid of the communist period share the same centre.
