
Cologne
Founded in Roman times, it is one of Germany's oldest major cities — its name comes from the Roman colony established here. Its cathedral took 632 years to build and, on completion, its 157-meter towers made it the tallest structure in the world; it has been UNESCO-listed since 1996.
